Capture 5 in a Row!

We don’t have a video yet, but its on the way!  It is a simple enough game that you can probably figure it out from the description, however.  Here it goes:

This is another flexible strategy game.  We recommend it for grades 3 and up.  There is a multiplying version and a version where you can put all of your skills to work!

  1. Grab a partner and 2 dice (6-sided, 10-sided or 12-sided…choose your challenge level)
  2. Objective? To capture five in a row before your partner does.  Some students prefer to play this cooperatively.  They like to work together to capture five in a row.  As long as both partners are in agreement, it is their choice.
  3. When it is your turn, roll the dice.  Then it’s time to make a decision: What should I do with the numbers rolled? First, think about place value. Would you like to change one dice to represent the tens? Or would you like to stick with each dice representing ones? Once you have made a decision, you can find the the sum, the difference, the product or even the quotient of the two numbers.tn

Enjoy!
