This is a handy place value game that can be adapted to different sized numbers. This is great for grades three up to grade 6.
You will need:
- a partner
- a calculator
- number sense!
Type in a secret number between 100 and 500. Make sure each digit is different. Don’t show your partner.
Each partner takes turns asking to have various numbers:
- Example: “Can I have all your 3’s?” or “Can I have all your 8’s?”
If a partner has that digit, they must articulate the true value of that digit and subtract it from their total. The asking partner adds it to their total.
- Example: “Can I have all your 5’s?” Partner with 654 states, “You can have 50.”
- If they do not have that digit, they say, “You can have nothing.”
Keep going until the partner reaches 1000!
You can adapt with decimals and larger numbers. Have fun!
